8 Days Lemosho Route

From

$2,000.00

The Lemosho route is one of our preferred routes due to its low traffic, beautiful scenery, and a high summit success rate. The Lemosho route joins the Machame route at Shira 2 Camp and then follows the same route through the southern circuit and descending at Mweka Gate.

Take on the ultimate adventure with the 8-Day Lemosho Route Climb, one of the most scenic and recommended routes to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. This extended itinerary offers excellent acclimatization, making it one of the best choices for achieving a high summit success rate while enjoying diverse landscapes and a less crowded trekking experience.

Your journey begins with hotel pickup in Moshi or Arusha, followed by a comprehensive briefing from experienced mountain guides. The trek starts on the western side of Kilimanjaro, leading you through lush rainforest filled with wildlife such as colobus monkeys, birds, and unique plant species. As you ascend, the trail opens up to the spectacular Shira Plateau, offering panoramic views and peaceful surroundings.

Over eight days, you will traverse a variety of terrains, including moorlands, alpine deserts, rocky ridges, and volcanic landscapes. The longer duration allows for gradual acclimatization, increasing your chances of reaching the summit safely and comfortably. Each night is spent in well-organized camps with quality tents, warm meals, and support from a professional team dedicated to your safety and success.

The highlight of the climb is the summit attempt, typically starting at midnight. As you hike under the stars, you will reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The reward is a breathtaking sunrise above the clouds, with views of glaciers, valleys, and the vast plains below — a truly unforgettable moment.

The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are viewable from this position.

-Distance: 12 km/7 miles
-Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
-Habitat: Rain Forest
Very early in the morning (around midnight), we begin our push to the summit. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. The wind and cold at this elevation and time of day can be extreme. We ascend in the darkness for several hours while taking frequent, but short, breaks. Near Stella Point (18,900 ft), you will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see coming over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, we arrive at Uhuru Peak- the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa.
From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. The trail is very rocky and can be quite hard on the knees; trekking poles are helpful. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.

Day 8 Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

On our last day, we continue the descent to Mweka Gate and collect the summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. From the gate, we continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet us at Mweka Village to drive us back to the hotel in Moshi
